excuse me - is the name of my band. we consist of girls only. so anyway, we entered this battle of da bands in utp called ‘euphonius’. we were only joking about forming a band coz we all, ina, ernie, iylia, adreen and myself,know that we each can play instruments. ina da lead guitarist, ern da vokalist, iylia da bassist, adreen da keyboardist and me da drummer. we weren’t even thinking of entering da competition since we all stopped playing since school days and dat was years ago. kira we all retired musicians la.

then, word got around dat we r entering. n some ppl were kinda against it, saying its a ‘real competition’, ‘can girls handle it?, blah blah blah, and of course we felt challenged and hence! we entered da competition.

we practiced at every opportunity we had. even during our mid sem break! hours at a time!! we decided to do ‘ku bahagia’ by melly goeslaw, small parts from ’she wants to move’ by NERD as the intro and ‘what i like about you’ by lilix as the interval between songs, and ’starlight’ by muse.

we heard a lot of remarks about us doing starlight, like how ern sounded so mendayu when she sang it n all.. huh.. anyways, we pushed ourselves to prove those stereotype, sempit-minded ppl dat girls can do it too. that we can rock as hard too. even when we’re having exam we try to squeeze in a jamming session. so u try imagine da sacrifices we made for this competition. its not dat we wanna make it to da finals to have some limelight, boost popularity or wateva shitty things most ppl think we’re doing this for, but more to doing it to have fun n to have experience. it was my FIRST time playing drums in front of ppl. so we all wanna put on a good show la. we are, after all, retired. so nak polish balik our skills took a lot of time.

then, when da day of the competition came, we were nervous as hell, n we made a few mistakes. but we gave our best n we played as hard as we could. i hit da bloody drums macam nak mati! but i had fun doing it. anyways, after all da bands performed, the judges gave their results and guess wat?

we made it to the finals!!

we are the 1st girl band to enter da competition. n now we are the 1st girl band to make it to da finals!!

we were like gila screaming when the mc’s told us we made it n for a moment there, we were excited! but then we were sad when we got to know our friends didnt make it to da finals with us.. so all of us macam half-heartedly nak masuk finals coz we know Hazel(our friends’ band) were better than us..

after da whole euphoria, we continued our lives as usual. then dgr la kutukan2 yg tak manis. like how excuse me don deserve to be in da finals, that da only reason da judges chose us is because they wanna attract audiences for da finals, that coz we got ‘markah kesian’ n etc. it really got to me at how shallow ppl can be!

we cheered for other bands as well, we supported them! but they discriminated us for being girls. wat da heck la! i mean, throw dat ego jantan n face da fact that girls can be as good as guys too! we have our ways to play n sing, so accept it la kan.

in the end its all about making music kan. sexist, sempit-minded ppl yg cannot accept being defeated by girls nak create controversy over a small matter. huh…

we knew this was gonna happen.

so, macam mane? we tried pleasing every1 but in the end, ppl just like putting others down instead of supprting them. typical.

we only wanted to play. if dats wrong, maybe there’s something wrong with da world.
